I AM aware that you must judge a letter by the number of characters it contains but hope you will accept the correction of a serious omission from my letter on fracking published on December 25.
I included water supply but you omitted my reference to contacting the NUF.
I think it is essential to emphasise that fracking is in competition with agriculture for the available water in the drier south of England.
The paragraph concerned should read: “Everything hinges on the scale of drilling uses.
“If hundreds of exploratory wells are required since each uses one hectare of land this puts farm land in competition.
“I wrote to the NUF on this and their advisor on energy and climate change told me that farm’s principal concerns were a shortage of water for irrigation and land restoration costs after use.”
