I AM so glad to see that the campaign to restore the cenotaph to its proper place is being given full coverage.

This should not be now a matter of further debate but as Sir Winston said — “Action this Day.” However, in full support may I make two suggestions?

First, someone suggested getting TV involved. If that helps fair enough. We now need the support of a well known personality to be in with that.

I suggest James Hillier Blount (James Blunt the brilliant singer songwriter), he has local connections and of course a military background.

I met him before he was famous at a charity ‘gig’ in Winchester and he was charming — I’m a fan.

Second, with the tragic Somme anniversary coming up the Government has pledged substantive grants to honour the date and restore WW1 memorials.

Get our new MP (Christopher) to pile in and chase that for us with his foot in Number 10’s door (he’s not my MP so I can’t write to him directly).

I am sure that would succeed because we don’t just want to restore the pride to our Cenotaph we actually want to move it back to its original and proper place.

I am quite certain even the National Press (with AA support) will pick up on that.
