EVERY year I see a notice in your paper inviting children and parents to see the annual lambing celebrations at Sparsholt college.
The wording is so fluffy and cuddly, seemingly evocative of the fun and frolics of new born animals.
The shepherd John Garret states: “It is fascinating and a privilege to watch animals being born.”
So it is, but what he fails to mention is that the lovely little lambs are violently killed a few weeks later and then sold as meat cuts.
Each to their own. I am a vegan personally as I don’t like cruelty to animals.
That includes the miserable lives dairy cattle and pigs go through before they are killed for food.
But please don’t dress up lambing at Sparsholt College as a wonder of nature when the reality is they are being raised to be killed, when they are still babies, for food.
That is not so wonderful ... in my view.
That is misleading at the very least.
