I WOULD like to offer some friendly advice to all of those involved in the world of politics.

Sometimes, just sometimes, say something nice about your opponents.

They cannot be doing everything wrong all the time and even some of their policies must be sound.

This is in part why I broke with Cllr Tony Hooke who could not see that the Tory administration at TVBC had done some good things as well as some bad ones too.

I understand there are still a small number of people who do not believe there has been a split between us but it is true.

I will co-operate with those of all parties who come up with practical solutions to the issues of the day.

Secondly, on the issue of surnames and their origins more readers have asked about the meaning of their own and others they have heard of.

Readers wishing to know more about the origin of their surnames can write to me and I will do my best to help them.
