I WRITE in response to a ‘road rage’ letter in the Andover Advertiser.

Good for you Sandra Town for speaking out!

Isn’t it time we got a campaign going to rid our roads of these dangerous, arrogant, aggressive bullies.

Their inconsiderate, selfish behaviour on the road and their disregard for the safety of other road users is appalling and even more disgraceful is their reaction when reminded that other motorists, too, need to be able to use the road safely.

When Sandra Town’s grandson peeped his horn, it was probably a reflex reaction to a perceived danger.

The bully, then, subjected him to a tirade of verbal abuse and angry gestures, over a considerable distance, terrifying him and distracting him from his driving.

This not only put the young driver at risk but also endangered other road users, caught up in the incident.

Sadly, this is not an isolated incident, it is becoming a frequent hazard for motorists and something we should all speak up about – it needs to stop!

As a society we are tackling bullying in schools, cyber bullying and bullying in the workplace – it needs to be stamped out on our roads, too – next time you witness it, take the car registration and report it to the police.

It is admirable that Sandra Town’s grandson (the holder of an advanced driving certificate) has equipped himself so well for today’s challenging road conditions.

Maybe his abuser could take a leaf out of this young man’s book – after he has attended an anger management course, perhaps.
