WITH regard to your article about the Energy Recovery Centre proposed for the Walworth Estate, I would like to point out the following, regarding the slightly inaccurate information (towards the end of the article) about "public consultation" measurements and my involvement.

The actual planning situation and my involvement so far, is as follows: The legal minimum consultation distance from the planned "construction", for residential areas, is 50 metres / 55 yards and for industrial areas 100 metres / 110 yards, irrespective of the type of building involved.

This meant that initially, the County Council only consulted tenants on the industrial estate, which is, it would seem, legally, all it is actually obliged to do.

Once I had found this out, I ensured that the County Council planning department sent out notices to a wider audience which actually included some local residential properties and extended the consultation deadline to May 2 from April 1.

Furthermore, in the interest of openness, to make sure that all sides have a chance to put their case and air their very genuine concerns, I also referred the application to Hampshire’s Regulatory Committee, where the case will be heard, in public, on Wednesday May 18, at Hampshire County Council’s offices in Winchester.

If I had not done this, the case could have been decided by just one officer of the county council, which I believe would have been totally wrong.
