LAST Sunday we held the Queen’s 90th birthday party in Vigo Recreation Ground and I would like to use your paper to say thank you for the publicity and the many goody bags and books we were able to give out on the day.

We had teamed up with TVBC, who kindly gave us a grant and Valley Leisure who helped with the organisation, which I hope everybody appreciated.

The music on the afternoon should have suited everyone with Alex Krupa, Chris Berntsen, Common Ground and Jake Ward all performing for the substantial crowd that had come along to celebrate. This was followed by Test Valley Brass giving a wonderful concert and ending with Andover Choral Society leading the ‘last night of the proms’ type singing for all. So my thanks must go to all of this special talent we have in the town.

Many charities and sports club took part and of course Valley Leisure with their ‘Sumo Kits’ were enjoyed by everyone. Our very grateful thanks have to go to Andover Churches Together whose volunteers worked so hard to give tea, coffee and cakes to everyone who came along, all free of charge. The Environment Group were brilliant giving so much for the children to do including making tents and woodcraft and talking to everyone about Harmony wood and the environment.

The afternoon was well attended with the Mayor of Test Valley inviting fifty 90 year olds to have tea whilst joining in the music and singing. There was a photo opportunity with the Queen, and plenty to enjoy amongst the charities, including Mencap, Andover MS society, Enham, RCS and the sports clubs such as tennis, table tennis and football. EVERYTHING FREE for all to enjoy.

Sadly, the weather did not play along, especially as the rain came as the choir started to sing ‘Rule Britannia’, but the band and choir stoically continued to great applause.

My thanks must go to everybody, especially my committee and helpers, who helped on the day to make this a birthday to remember. I believe Her Majesty would have enjoyed her party, although perhaps you can tell me why we had such a glorious sunny evening AFTER the party.

Finally, RCS had a free draw at the party and Mr Cook from Amport has won a £20 voucher from Amazon.
