AT the January meeting of Amport Parish Council it was announced that there had been a resignation from the council and therefore a new councillor was being sought. Other matters discussed included:

Highways: Wiremead Lane. Photographs have been taken of all the narrow areas, where vehicles are forced off the edge of the road when passing each other, which has caused large potholes with puddles. These are to be included in a full report which will be circulated to all parties who have influence over the condition of local highways. The local authority will be given the opportunity to respond before a more public protest is initiated.

The Green: Photographs have also been taken of the eroded stretch of road alongside the ditch and these will be sent to Paul Walsh at Hampshire County Council.

The Green and Fen: The recent invasion by moles is being dealt with, and the baby swing seats, which are becoming worn, are to be replaced.

The Hawk — car park and bus shelter: Following complaints about lack of visibility for drivers leaving the car park, arrangements have been made to cut back the adjoining hedge. Quotations are being sought to repair the roof of the bus shelter beside the pub.

Andover Business Park: A standing group is being formed to monitor the movement of heavy good vehicles using this area following a request from the developer for the original restrictions to be eased.

Solar farm payment: The council is continuing in their efforts to obtain the funds promised from the firm INRG, which is based in southern Ireland, to recompense the parish for setting up a solar park within its borders.

Website: Cllrs Angela Reckitt and Jill McAvoy are still working on the new-look village website and were thanked for their efforts. Other members of the council were asked to produce a foreword for the section covering their responsibilities.

Noticeboard: A new noticeboard has been made and will shortly be erected opposite the end of Wiremead Lane.

Lengthsman: No further news has been received about this appointment.

Football match: A very successful inter-village football match was held on New Year’s Eve on The Green with large numbers of children and adults taking part. Another match is planned for 5 February.

Next meetings: Council meetings will be held at Monxton and Amport Village Hall on 21 February and 21 March starting at 7.30pm.
