JUST after Christmas (December 28) I found a small sum of money along the path around Monro’s roundabout (the one linking Newbury Road and the access route into the litter-generating takeaway, known in some local dialects as KFC).

On the ground were several ‘discarded’ Christmas cards but when retrieved as ‘recyclable litter’, all the envelopes were still sealed, and when opened to check before ‘binning’ them, each of the cards contained money.

Three cards in all.

It would appear that a lady, known in her family circle as ‘Great Nanny Yvonne’, endeavoured to send Christmas wishes (along with cash gifts) but somehow the ‘sortie’ must have gone awry on her.

The items have been in the lost property dept of Andover ‘nick’, since December 28, and after 30 days unclaimed revert to the finder. That is the ‘legal’ position, but the ‘moral’ position states that not all avenues of redress have been exhausted and, as a last resort, it just might be possible to trace the person who has just title on the money, by publishing the name (Great Nan Yvonne) and the general circumstance of the ‘find’ as an appeal in the letter’s page.

Due to the fact that I would like my name and address withheld, the contact number is 07986 147211.
