I HAVE followed with interest the ongoing lunacy that is the replacement of the Leisure Centre and in particular, the swimming pool.

I refer to the statement by TVBC that consultation ‘took place with local clubs’. This is denied by local clubs and as such, comes under the category of ‘Alternative Facts’.

Some consultation may have taken place, but not with the people who really use the facility.

This is evident from the fact that the new pool will be unsuitable for use by Andover Swimming Club and Sub Aqua Club.

I have seen the ‘consultation process’ used many times before by local authorities, employers, government and other organisations. All too often a plan is devised, then ‘consultation’ takes place.

The views of those consulted are then ignored and the original plan implemented.

We live in a world where the democratic process is increasingly at risk.

Having lived in the area for 70 years I have looked on sadly as Andover staggers from one hare-brained, half-baked scheme to another, knee deep in mediocrity, while the nearby towns seem to thrive.

I have watched while our town slowly dies on its feet and there seems nothing we can do about it. Even the public toilets are now closed.

Perhaps the councillors who are foisting this secondrate facility on us should resign and make way for somebody with a vision. Otherwise we are condemned to yet more concrete balls.
