FRIDAY 5 May could just be your lucky day!

Flower arrangers across the south will be leaving bouquets for members of the public to find to cheer their day up. Keep your eyes peeled, they could be anywhere. They are known as ‘lonely bouquets’ — flowers looking for a new home.

Broughton Floral Club will be sharing the happiness in Stockbridge, Broughton and surrounding villages as usual.

So, who is behind this random act of kindness? It is individual flower arrangers who are members of the great British institution the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies (NAFAS).

NAFAS is a charity that can teach you everything you ever wanted to know about flowers. From arranging flowers in your home, meeting up with friends to enjoy inspiring flower demonstrations, exhibiting in competitions, creating flowers for events — no matter what it is, NAFAS can teach it to you.

Local NAFAS chairman, Pauline Hurran, says: “We really look forward to this annual event as we are able to make contact with lots of flower lovers and spread some unexpected happiness. The flowers are simple posies but hearing from the recipient when they have found flowers is such a thrill. You never know what people are going through in their day to day lives and these flowers can be just what they need to restore their faith in human nature. It is a privilege for us to do this.”

NAFAS is a national flower arranging charity with a strong focus on education. Despite a public perception of flower arranging being an ‘elderly’ pursuit it is one of the favourite pastimes of ‘Millennials’ who are keen flower growers and busy learning how to arrange them.
