ANDOVER’S Probus Club, which is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its formation this year, met recently at the Keystone Hall for lunch.

Retiring president, Rod Dossett, handed over to his successor, Bob Briggs, and committee members were elected / re-elected for the 2017/18 season.

After the meeting member Norval Young gave an amusing and anecdote-packed talk on his long career as a master mariner. This ‘ancient mariner’ travelled world-wide in a considerable variety of merchant ships and his adventures and memories of those days remain etched on his mind.

The club will meet next on 24 April when the speaker will be Paul Stickler who will describe the events surrounding the A6 murder — a must for those with an appetite for a good lunch and a crime story! New members will be most welcome.

How to join and details of the speaker programme for future meetings are available from Barrie Johnson on 01264 337479 or email bgjoh@talktalk.net. Why not attend as a guest before committing yourself? Plans are well in hand for the grand 40th anniversary Summer lunch on 26 June at the Apollo Hotel, Basingstoke.
