YOUR correspondent, Jennifer Godschall Johnson (Letters 20 April), returns to a tired old theme with many assertions which I do not recognise regarding the strength of feeling of voters and a crumbling Brexit.

She claims ‘The Peoples’ Vote’ is surging — well it surged when we had the Brexit referendum, but that surge doesn’t seem to have suited her. I see reports of wages rising faster than prices, more people in work, rising inward investment and so on. That doesn’t strike me as a crumbling Brexit.

She pursues her theme of all leavers were cheats and fraudsters leaving unsaid her obvious corollary that all remainers were angels of propriety.

She goes on yet again about no plan, no preparation, etc.

If I were invited to join a former adversary with whom I had developed friendly relations, in a scheme which on the surface looked beneficial to everyone, but which after a while I realised was a trap to make me a hostage I would take the very first opportunity to flee – through an open window, a car door, a train compartment or whatever.

We support the current planning application; however, we must take issue with the public comment made by Deputy Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, and planning portfolio holder Cllr Nick Adams-King.

In March 2015, the lessees of this property submitted a planning application (15/00500/FULLN) for the change of use of the betting shop to fish and chip restaurant and installation of ventilation equipment.

The above planning application was approved, subject to conditions.

In respect of the flue, the environmental health officer (EHO) stipulated that: “Works that form part of this scheme shall be installed as approved and shall be in full working order prior to the commencement of the use.”

The planner agreed that the permission would not be made lawful until this condition was complied with.

Unfortunately, the premises opened without this condition being discharged with the resultant smoke and odour bellowing across Bridge Street.

Therefore, a second application (16/00329/FULLN) was submitted to the local authority for the replacement of the kitchen extract system. I was, at the moment an escape opportunity offered itself, or if I had no plan of how to get home.

I would know of course where I was going – home; even if I didn’t know the way.

Most of the people I know (and absolutely by no means all members or supporters of UKIP) would do the same.

I could go on and on (as you well know!) — there are indeed many more things to be said but to rebut every one of her assertions would take a full page of your newspaper.
