IT WAS with regret that I read a notice that Squires is closing due to retirement.
During my time at Andover Grammar School in the 1950s and 60s I used to buy records from them and then it was a mad dash to catch the train from the Town Station to Horsebridge.
In later years if I wanted an odd piece of ‘electrickery’, apart from a radio or television, that was the place to go.
Unfortunately in this modern throwaway era nobody has televisions or radios repaired as it is cheaper to replace.
It’s sad to see a very long established Andover business closing but, unfortunately, it’s a sign of these not always good modern times.
