I SEE that Ian Carr has got his ‘Mighty Bloated Ego’ medal that no doubt his beloved cronies at Test Valley Borough Council put him forward for, even though in mine and others eyes he has been the main reason for the demise of our beloved Andover town over the years.
In total contrast, as mentioned in June 22 Advertiser, Alec Holloway proprietor of P. Squires in Bridge St has just retired after working in, then running the business for 71 years. I for one, know exactly what a brilliant achievement this is through thick and thin, to keep not only a business going but dealing with the changes made to Andover by the councillors.
I haven’t as yet seen or heard any announcements of gratitude from the councillors of TVBC.
In total contrast again, I have seen plenty of photographs of these councillors in the Advertiser, giving away a £750 grant to all businesses who have only been open for six months.
So what value would they put on what Mr Holloway has achieved?
Perhaps with the Pride of Andover Awards coming soon, they might have a category that the councillors could nominate Mr Holloway for or create one just for him.
Personally I would like to thank Mr Holloway for always being there when I needed electrics for my business, and I wish him a peaceful and happy retirement. He deserves it!
Ron Wood, Bridge Street, Andover
