REGARDING the article in page 4 of the Advertiser of June 29 concerning the news about the hit and run driver who damaged the Shahi Raj owner’s car, Mrs Rahela Khanom.

I can confirm that this legendary community minded and much-loved lady still continued with her self-imposed commitments in our town.

At 3pm on Sunday at Vigo Park Rahela hosted her annual ladies’ picnic.

Anyone that has ever tasted her sumptuous homestyle cooking, would have been there, but it was a ladies’ event only. I estimated 70 of us turned up, and Rahela, being Rahela, never once mentioned the car or the costs she incurred having to repurchase the foods trapped in the boot.

She is a modest, humble, devout human being who puts me in mind of Mother Teresa.

I, like all those that came along, came not only to taste her food, but to show respect and love to her, in such a tangible way.

They say people throw stones down onto your path.

Her way is to climb over them and carry on.

If the person who did this to her, has an ounce of decency, he / she perhaps may now contact her through the restaurant.

She is by nature forgiving.

It would go a long way to showing that one isolated incident like this, does not make him / her, the scoundrel that he /she hitherto is viewed as.
