THE ELEPHANT in the room.
It was heartening to see that Brian Mercer (letters July 13) has an understanding of just where the EU is heading, though I would suggest that our treaty obligation to ‘Ever Closer Union’ will only ever be achieved by complete integration and, as Mr Mercer says, the complete eradication of the nation states, into a single Mega-state (which the oligarchs in the EU will audaciously call ‘Europe’), rather than the ‘tight-knit federation’ he suggests.
I wonder if all those who wish to stay a part of the EU realise that we are in a process to dissolve the nation states, something which Monnet envisioned and promoted long ago.
In the same edition you print a report of a group pressing for a second referendum.
That would have to be even more complex than the first — do you agree with the government’s negotiated position, do you not, and if not do you want to stay in the EU or leave completely, etc, etc?
What a dog’s breakfast!
We had a referendum — we voted ‘Out’. It’s very simple. It’s just a three-letter word.
Out, Out, Out — it doesn’t matter how many times you say it, it is still just a three letter word. It’s very simple — we voted for a divorce. A clean break, no alimony, no strings.
Rather than continuing to swim through treacle in the mess which Mrs May and her government have got themselves into we should immediately end our so-called negotiations with the disingenuous EU, tell them that we are reverting to WTO rules and prepare the country for just that on March 29 next.
