MANY readers will have seen or read about the terrible experience and conditions suffered by the people of the Philippines, Indonesia and American Samoa after the recent floods, earthquake and tsunami.
I am able to advise that one of the first aid charities getting assistance into the region is the Rotary charity Shelterbox.
One Shelterbox will provide a tent for living accommodation for at least ten people with emergency cooking facilities and equipment, blankets, water purification and basic tool kit.
Each box costs £490 to include transportation to the area.
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Andover may I appeal to the generosity of your readers for any donations large or small to provide such humanitarian aid via the Shelterbox charity to be sent to me and payable to The Rotary Club of Andover.
We had a magnificent response from local people following the disaster in that region at the end of 2004. Although the loss of life is not on the same scale almost as many are left homeless with absolutely nothing.
Is it possible that our generous supporters could find it within their means to once again rise to the challenge to assist the unfortunate people of the Pacific Area?
Rotarian John Stewart, International Chairman, Rotary Club of Andover, 63 Conholt Road, Andover, SP10 2HS.
