I WOULD like to say a massive thank you to the driver who slowed down and avoided my daft cat when he ran into the road by Beech Hurst last Tuesday – but I can’t, because you didn’t.

I can’t even thank you for stopping to check to see if he (or I) was all right after you ran over him without even slowing down, because you didn’t.

I watched you carry on despite there being a large cat in the road and I watched you carry on after you’d run him over; seemingly without a second thought to the devastation you might be leaving behind.

I hope you never have to go through the anguish that my family and I went through. Thankfully we found our beloved Buster and even more thankfully after a night at the pleasure of Strathmore Vets he is home and fine.

I don’t expect any recompense. I understand he’s a cat and he shouldn’t have been there – he thinks he’s a dog and try as I might he does like to walk to school with me to collect my children.

I know there is no legal obligation to stop. Morally however . . . well that’s another story.

So no thanks to the driver of the Subaru, you know who you are.
