THERE are times when I don’t know whether to laugh or weep!
I see it so often in the press, and here it is in our local paper.
Something has obviously gone wrong, and a ‘spoke’, leaping up in defence, says the worst thing they can possibly say in the circumstances – ‘We take (whatever it is) most seriously’.
This time it is wonky pavements; other times it is when someone has given the personal details of a million or so vulnerable individuals to anybody who would like to benefit from it.
Whatever, there are only two logical conclusions: The authority concerned obviously DO NOT take the matter seriously – i.e. the statement is a lie, or They do take it seriously, but are hereby admitting to being woefully negligent.
I’ve stopped laughing now, and I’m running out of tissues.
Doh!
