Take ideas from the continent

REGARDING charges for wheelie bins — my late mother was German, and each wheelie bin provided by the local authority where her family live has an electronic chip in it and the collection lorry records the weight of the contents. You pay according to what you throw away.

In the local town there are hardly any empty shops. The business rates vary according to your turnover, so it means that there are some small shops which don’t sell much, but which can still exist.

Perhaps we should send some of our councillors on a study tour of mainland Europe. It’s rather sad to me that many British people seem to think that everything on the Continent is awful.
