Cash reserves should be used

I AM disappointed to see Cllr David Drew using his role as town council chairman to try to score party political points.

He should of course keep his two roles as county councillor and town councillor separate. His comments about Lib Dem county councillors are inaccurate and misleading.

All the Lib Dem county councillors supported the 0 per cent council tax at the county and spoke in favour of no increase. Lib Dems abstained on the budget as a whole because they felt it pointless to keep adding to the county’s cash reserves of £302m. Instead they spoke in favour of additional spending on frontline services, e.g. for children’s centres, youth issues etc. They therefore could not vote for the whole Tory package.

Instead of stashing taxpayers’ money into reserves the money should be used upfront, where it matters.
