Council scheme will spark 'car parking war'
12:43pm Friday 4th October 2013 in Letters
TOWN workers got into the habit of parking in Redbridge Drive, the only ingress, egress road to this area.
Several residents, my wife included, contacted Test Valley Borough Council to complain.
I did try to warn them to be careful of what they wished for.
The TVBC solution to the problem is to impose a fee paying permit parking scheme to every household in Redbridge Drive, Cress Gardens and Sainsbury Close.
No doubt the town workers will move on to another road close to the town centre to park free and we will be left to carry a cost.
The area has been in existence over 30 years, with little or no parking problems.
‘No Waiting’ is to be applied between 1000hrs-1400hrs Monday to Friday.
Permit parking bays outside individual houses will no doubt be considered by those residents as their personal parking spaces.
Wrong, the parking bays are for all permit holders.
I for one will not be purchasing any permit from TVBC, as I can get two cars on my drive at a squeeze.
I pay for a vehicle excise licence to keep my car on the road.
I await with bated breath the car parking wars between residents fighting over limited permit parking bays.
I hope those who complained originally about the Redbridge Drive parking are pleased with the result.
I know that TVBC are, as they will be making money from an area that hitherto had no need of their ‘assistance’.
