Tesco fuel costs more in Andover
12:49pm Friday 4th October 2013 in Letters
TIME for another moan about fuel prices in Andover.
On Saturday 28 September Tesco Andover were 4p a litre more expensive than Tesco Winchester and Newbury?
Why might this be?
I think I have the answer, TVBC have a report somewhere on their website stating that a high proportion of local residents live and work locally and that Andover is basically an unskilled town.
It always seems to be the people who can least afford it pay the most. Tesco are taking advantage of the fact that a lot of people in this town are ‘poor’.
Stand near the Tesco pumps at about 6.30-7am and watch how many motorists only put in a few pounds worth of fuel in their cars. It is actually quite sad to see.
I know what Tesco will say: “We are competitive locally”. Why can’t Tesco be the ones to take the lead and be the first to actually lower the price?
But I suppose for their shareholders “every little helps”.
