I FEEL I must take issue with Peter Rigby who wrote about Nissan, implying the firm would be no great loss.
Nissan is the largest employer in Washington, Tyne and Wear – not only the thousands in the factory but in the support industries as well. In an area that was devastated by the coal mine closures, Nissan was and still is a company that brought self respect back to the region. I can assure Mr Rigby that I know many people who have been very happy with their Nissan cars and they are also extremely valuable for export.
I have lived in Andover since 1966 but I still feel my roots are in the North East and I have family and friends there so I know how important Nissan is to the economy.
