I WAS unsurprised to read the latest letter from Tony Hooke which, just like a broken record, was yet again calling for Ian Carr to resign.
However, what was confusing was his sign-off as Hampshire County Council (HCC); implying that his comments are county council policy. I know that this is untrue.
Of the five issues highlighted, only one, the town summit, has any involvement from county.
I am certain, too, that there are HCC employees embarrassed by this misrepresentation.
The summit outcomes are now being seen in the town. Additional markets have been organised to attract people into the centre. The Pop-up Shop seems to have been a success, too – at least that is what the occupants have told me.
I read that work is being undertaken on signage to help visitors find shops in the malls and alleyways just off the High Street and grants have been awarded to ease the financial burden for new startup businesses.
These initiatives are a positive step forward for the town centre.
I would like to offer my support and to say a big thank you to all those involved who have helped and sustained this progress, and congratulations also to the businesses that have started the Totally Locally campaign, an independent initiative to make shopping in Andover more attractive.
It is a crying shame that Cllr Hooke appears unable to give any credit to anyone, for anything at all!
