THERE are at least 240,000 people in the UK who are affected by a condition which causes swelling of the limbs or body.

I am one of them and am very pleased to tell your readers that the support group for the condition has started up again in Basingstoke.

Lymph is a colourless fluid which forms in the body from the blood to take oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body and remove waste products.

If the drainage route through the lymphatic system becomes blocked following surgery, Radiotherapy, disease or damage, lymph fluid can accumulate in the tissues and swelling occurs.

Lymphoedema can also be the result of underdevelopment of the lymph transport pathways and can occur at any age.

The Basingstoke Lymphoedema Support group’s aim is to provide support and advice in a relaxed and informal environment to anyone with lymphoedema, their families/carers. All ages welcome.

They meet on a Monday evening each month at St Michael’s Hospice, Basingstoke. If you would like to know more about the group and forthcoming dates then contact Gail on 01256 323409 or Fiona on 07867 523908.
