I AM pleased to see that Cllr Tony Hooke UKIP feels that he can once again address constituents after his latest brush with our county’s fine police force.

In his letter entitled “plenty of new plans by UKIP” he appears to re-list a number of his old policies, many of which have been debunked a number of times.

Firstly, he wants to abolish the Andover Town Council, this in spite of him running an unsuccessful campaign to elect a UKIP town councillor last year – after he arranged for an election to be called – costing the taxpayer thousands. Can he explain his flip-flopping?

He wants councillors to cut their allowances to just £2,999 – why are all of his elected county council colleagues claiming their full allowances? While Cllr Hooke may be wealthy enough to ‘donate’ his own allowance to a local charity, I note that he has not refused to accept them, which is, I understand, something he could have done, thereby saving the taxpayer thousands.

Furthermore, I suspect Neighbourcare’s funding has been cut because they no longer need such large grants owing to Cllr Hooke’s generosity.

If Cllr Hooke and his friends in UKIP believe they can ‘take over’ a borough council while polling below 15 per cent, they only appear naive and out of touch with public opinion.

I hope the fine people of our borough vote for someone else.
