WHOEVER is responsible for the changes to the traffic management systems at the Weyhill Road/Andover Business Park roundabout should be handed his or her cards immediately.

However, if the purpose of the change was to create a horrendous bottleneck, with tailbacks blocking exits and clogging approach roads and an accompanying increase in pollution due to vehicles having to stop and start more frequently, then by golly, it is a success!

From the A303 westbound to the ring-road used to be a two-stop – maximum.

Sometimes it was even possible to get all the way to the townbound exit unimpeded.

Now you can be stopped three or even four times, depending upon the traffic density and even the size of vehicle that precedes you across the junction – an artic can take up the whole length of a lane and trap you on the other side of the box junction as the lights change again.

It may not have been perfect before but a return to the original timing and sequence would be more than welcome!
