I WAS disturbed to see a letter entitled Which Planet Is Cllr On? from Peter Mather in last week’s paper.

As far as I can remember, Mr Mather has been a candidate for the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and ‘Andover Independents’ in previous elections and has failed to be returned under any of these banners.

I suspect this may be due, in part, to the constant criticism of local councillors which he uses as his election platform instead of providing the people of Andover with a proposal for what he would do if he were elected.

I understand that he is now a UKIP candidate for St Marys Ward. Can Mr Mather explain his changing allegiances?

It’s so very important to hold candidates to a higher degree of scrutiny before they are elected, rather than discovering flaws afterward.

I personally could never trust someone who has changed parties four times in a decade in the vain attempt to hold public office.
