HAVING read Rory McKeown’s article on the possible council tax increase requested by the police commissioner, I found nothing in the comments that comes anywhere close to a hike, as he over-emphasises it.
The amount mentioned is £3.07 for band D, roughly the average price of a pint of beer. To most households this would be a negligible increase.
We rely on our police for increasingly more duties now and all expect them to be there, as and when any incident happens. They are often abused and attacked in the course of their duties, as has happened this week, which can only cause to increase their expenditure.
They need our support in keeping this county as safe as it is, not inflammatory comments on necessary funding.
