I THOUGHT I would write and tell you of another trip down memory lane.

It was in the story of page three of the paper dated 16 January. It was about the pub in Adelaide Road. Well I knew it when it was called the Adelaide and the Saturday nights when the drill hall was in full swing with the Melody Makers dance band. I expect some of the older Andover people would remember that too. They were either at the pictures or up at the dance.

There was quite a lot of us and at the interval we would go up to the Adelaide for drinks and then it was back to the dancing till 11pm when it finished.

The drummer in that band was a friend of my husband and I. He is in my wedding album because he was the best man. His brother played the saxophone. Sadly they are all gone now.

I seem to remember we went in the pub through the back way in a lane off Rack Close. Is it still there? All this was back in 1947. As Bob Hope would sing, “Thanks for the memory”.

I say it too.
