I COULDN’T help but notice that a Facebook posting by a county councillor made several claims about the railway station that need addressing.
Firstly, with regard to the claim for more cycle space.
The station actually has a placard up saying that they want applications for takers as they have spare spaces.
Secondly he waded into the dire issue of the station parking without giving a solution and seemingly suggesting it was the responsibility of TVBC or county to provide this. In fact the parking should be the responsibility of Network Rail.
I would be happy to see the station car park (and all the TVBC car parks in the town) vested in a new parking authority under the auspices of the town council. Finally then we might see some action on addressing the appalling situation for commuters that live beyond walking distance of the station.
The solution is the construction of a three-level car park (both with entrances at the station forecourt) and a steel structure top deck entered from Millway Road. This would increase the number of places to more than two and a half times the current capacity.
And naturally the fees from the parking would pay for the development.
