I HAVE just read the comments in the Advertiser about the litter and dog fouling in Andover and thought I would take this opportunity to thank the lovely man who clears up all the rubbish around the Roman Way area.

He is out in all weather and keeps everything tidy, but I have to say his job seems endless.

The worst place for rubbish we have seen is Roman Way school, inside the grounds but not actually in the playground.

It seems people are using it as a tip and it looks terrible.

Also outside the school people have let their dogs foul the verges and not cleaned it up.

Who would do that where the children have to walk?

I think it all comes down to laziness and a complete lack of interest in the community as a whole.

Some people have no respect for themselves and hence no respect for anyone or anything else.

Even in the town people spit out chewing gum on to the pavement, how disgusting is that?

It costs a lot of money to clean it up but they don’t care, as long as someone else does.

Andover would be a much nicer environment for all if only everyone took responsibility for their own rubbish, whatever form it takes, as it shows you care about the town and its residents.

Call me old fashioned...
