WHAT planet is council leader Ian Carr on?
He brags in his letter how good Test Valley Borough Council is, yet in recent weeks the Advertiser has reported on issues including just two fines being handed out for dog mess, problems with the bins service (a worker hit by a road sweeper, collections missed and staff reprimanded), staff taking many, many sick days off... the list goes on.
And on top of all that, 30 council staff are earning more than £50,000 a year and the chief executive earns more than David Cameron!
When will sanity return to local authorities? The public sector bleats about cuts and how hard it is for them, they should try living in the real world.
Public bodies have been bloated for far too long, wasting our money, it’s about time they were forced to start tightening their belts.
If they had to operate like the private sector then it would be no bad thing, a shake-up is badly needed. It’s been cosy for long enough, and I for one look forward to lean, mean times ahead.
Efficiency is king.
A Roberts, Stockbridge
