WHILE walking through town the other day, I was disappointed to note that the cafe building attached to the recently renovated bus station appears empty and not in use.
Perhaps there’s not enough foot traffic generated by the bus station so sustain a business there?
While the bus station looks nice enough (as a regular bus user I remember the brisk wind that used to whistle through the enclosure), it seems this white elephant seems to offer little value for the approximately £5m it cost to produce.
What baffles me more is that only as recently as last year, Hampshire County Council consulted on what services it would cut back, with rural and inter-town services being hit the hardest. This is at a time when the county council has £481m in reserves. It does beg the question, are the (presently) Conservative-run county and borough councils run as fiscally responsibly as they might have us believe?
