IT was very odd to watch our new MP (Kit Malthouse) in the shot at coverage of the Queen’s Speech debate on the Parliament Channel.

Particularly as we have for so many years seen Sir George batting for Andover and environs – indeed often on the front bench.

Kit appeared far from comfortable as he sat sprawled out on the green benches visible behind Mrs May.

Sprawled out did I write – Yes – somewhat after the fashion of modern teenagers on a bus seat. He fiddled continuously with his tie, twitched at his ears and even used his smartphone.

He really did not look as if he was enjoying the experience.

He looked bored and (I’m sorry to report) was not from his body language in the slightest interested in Mrs May’s speech – worrying if he’s already pining for the London Mayor’s office.

I fear he’s just going to mark time until his great mate Boris enters Number 10 and then a plumb job probably awaits.

Andover and environs need his full and proper attention – so please Kit – ‘sit up straight’ and fight the fronts that worry us so much here 1; Over-development; 2. Wind farm and solar scheme threats; 3. a Stonehenge tunnel start; 4. Parking charges; 5. Hospital provision (relative to point 1); 6. Riverside access restoration; 7. Fracking disasters and 8. er – er – ‘Sit up straight’.
