THIS is just to remind your readers that June 15-19 is the official week to recognise those with learning disabilities.

It’s a very special week for our members and their families at Andover and District Mencap. Particularly as, at last, it seems that there is a real chance that we are beginning to be recognised as children and adults who are very much part of the community and indeed the world at large.

More of us being educated in our local mainstream schools, attending the local colleges, more of us having the opportunity to work, to volunteer, to join sports clubs, etc.

And to really become part of our local community alongside the rest of us. Yes, we will need your acceptance and your assistance sometimes, but I believe the more we mix up in our early years, the easier it will be for our members to join the local community as they grow up.

Do come along to The Wellington Centre on Winchester Road and meet some of us.

We would love to see you and hear of any ideas you may have to help us join you in Andover town; on the playing fields, at the pub and other exciting places.

Do let me have your ideas too.
