REGARDING Jane Juliff ’s letter re unimaginative and downmarket events, has she not seen the Andover Carnival and Christmas lights switch-on?
These two enormously exciting events not only take months of planning, but also involve many members of the community, both in organising and in participation.
The enjoyment experienced by both those performing and attendees make these two of the happiest days in the Andover calendar. In addition, we are a community of villages with thriving summer fetes and, rather than a flower festival, we have whole villages welcoming us to visit their open gardens, such as Wherwell, Amport, Abbotts Ann and Goodworth Clatford.
There are regular performers at the time ring on the High Street on market days and maybe, if support grows, this could be developed more into cultural events.
But in the meantime, please focus on what Andover does incredibly well and makes me proud to live here.
