I WOULD like the opportunity to thank all those residents on Elmstead Park who were prepared to “stick their heads over the parapet” and demonstrate by their actions their disapproval of the owner’s actions in more than doubling the water charges caused entirely by leaks on the park.

Whether the decision by Southern Water to award a rebate would have have been obtained without our actions will probably never be determined.

No matter what the outcome we should never have been charged three months of the excess through our direct debits.

In a letter to the residents from the site owners they suggested that the action we took involving the local press, which we did not undertake lightly, would possibly result in the devaluation of our homes.

It is quite possible that the condition of some areas of the park, particularly one rundown empty home, might also affect the value of our homes.

Hopefully the events of the past can be laid to rest and we can resume a more amicable relationship with the site owners.

Thanks also to the Andover Advertiser for reporting the issue and presenting a balanced and fair account of the situation.
