REGARDING Adrian Blackmore’s ‘Proud of Tradition’ letter of October 16 he says that game birds are wild and free range.

Game birds are anything but free range, wild, or organic.

They are either artificially bred and reared for release prior to the shooting season, or their habitat is artificially managed to ensure their survival simply to be shot for ‘sport’.

I have seen, first hand, the carnage left behind after a shoot. Innocent living beings left littering the ground, dead, maimed or fluttering around mortally wounded. Is that a vision you wish your children or grandchildren to come across, or do you see it as something Mr Blackmore urges us to be, ‘rightly proud of ’’?

The reality of the slaughter is far removed from the romantic nostalgic notion that Mr Blackmore would have you believe. These creatures are shot to satisfy sadistic blood lust, but the killing spree is dressed up as ‘conservation’.

The shooting industry is based on lies. Don’t take my word for it though; type in, ‘Is game bird shooting cruel and barbaric’, on Google, or go the ‘League Against Cruel Sports’ website, if you wish to know the truth.
