THE year 2015 saw some of the worst results for apprentice numbers in North West Hampshire.

We were one of only 30 constituencies to see the number of apprentices fall rather than increase. On average apprentice numbers increased by 100 in constituencies across the country, whereas ours fell by 30. This is another failure of our Tory run country and local authorities.

At the election we campaigned for affordable housing and were pleased to see TVBC uphold their promise of 40 per cent affordable housing at Augusta Park. We campaigned for more youth work in the town, HCC propose to cut another 454 jobs from Children’s and Adult services and we campaigned for more apprenticeships.

We call on TVBC and HCC to have a contractual obligation that when they hire companies to carry out work for them those companies must employ local apprentices so that our young people can earn, learn and receive the skills we as a community so desperately rely on.
