WITH regards to the recently arrived speed camera in Enham Alamein, I have it on very good authority that it was erected in the village to address a serious speeding issue.

Plans were in place for the parish council to buy and operate a community speed watch scheme, with funding secured, partly from the local police. At the last minute, the scheme was rejected on the grounds that the said police deemed the road “too dangerous”

to enable a device to be safely used, due to the excessive speeds observed.

Mobile units do appear from time to time, but not during the worst times of the day for speeders, the photo on your website showing the van behind the camera was taken at approximately 9.30am on a Sunday morning.

Since the camera was erected, traffic speed has greatly reduced through the village, particularly from the Newbury direction, and the resident responsible for the initiative should be applauded, rather than made to feel like a criminal.

Positive feedback on the Facebook page bears testament to the improvement noticed over the past week.

Fake or not, it seems to be doing some good, and if everybody observed the 30mph limit, surely no one has anything to worry about.
