LOCAL people are right to be concerned that HCC and others in the future may apply for planning for incinerators in Andover.

At a planning meeting of the Andover Town Council I raised concerns about how the operators would maintain the homogeneous nature of the material burnt. in other projects this has caused serious issues, and specifically how they would measure the rate of emission of harmful dioxin levels which are output from the plant. No answers as of yet!

I am slightly worried that there is even a need for this project, and if there is then it should not be put so close to the sprawling estates surrounding Walworth. I really feel for locals, especially families who have bought houses on the new estates.

A number of locals have asked me about regulations regarding clean air. Local monitoring and enforcement of clean air is something that the TVBC has the statutory powers to implement known as an Air Quality Management Area. in their recently adopted local plan they state that “there are areas of the borough where the air quality requires improving” but they chose to not implement an area of ‘Air Quality Management’ in Andover.

You may want to contact your local TVBC councillor and ask why we do not have an air quality management area in Andover?

And why they are not supporting it?
