‘TALES from The Forest’ was the title of Lyn Mackenzie’s May demonstration, her first visit to Broughton Floral Club but the club do not think it will be her last. The Rufus Stone gave Lyn inspiration for the first display, beginning with a tall glass vase filled with pieces of broken slate. To achieve a vertical line tall phormium tenax and cordyline leaves were used with tall birch twigs. At the base aucuba japonica sprigs made a collar to enhance the tall stemmed rose Naomi running through the uprights, with fiery coloured red and orange gerbera, yellow red tulips and crospedia globose. Two gerbera were placed mid-way on the vase attached to two midelino sticks. It was a very eye catching display.

Secondly, Lyn used a very attractive ‘s’ shaped stand with a display placed at the bottom and mid-way. The baskets were filled with various pittosporum sprigs, stems of Blue Dynamite eryngium, pale pink chrysanthemums and deep pink tulips.

The Spirit of Ecstasy and the Silver Ghost bonnet were behind the next display. The oasis and container were sprayed silver. Cornus twigs, acer disectum and salix cuprica stems were all spaced apart at an angle representing speed. White veronica, white roses, variegated cordyline and two beautiful stems of large white phalaenopsis orchids completed this very unusual display. The penultimate display was set into a circular stand. At the base fatsia japonica sprigs formed the collar. Eucalyptus cinerea, white pieris japonica and sprigs of deep pink azalea formed an outline for pink oriental lilies. To complete the display Lyn used more mixed pink gerberas and masses of white gypsophila.

Finally, with Burley being the inspiration , the display was bold and gold. A tall base was covered in gold hessian. Tall stems of phormian seedpods, fatsia leaves, choysia, pittosporumn and white pireris japonica sprigs were placed at the base. Liatris stems and red Naomi roses completed this very eye catching display.

The club, owing to proposed re-development, will be holding their next six meetings from July 2016 at King’s Somborne village hall. Visitors are welcome. ‘To the Manor Born’ is the title of Lucy Ellis’s demonstration and the club will look forward to meeting all newcomers at 7pm to 7.30pm.
