AS I entered the seasonally decorated Keystone Hall, situated in East Street, I felt a surge of excitement as the boxing ring came into view.

The expectation of young amateur boxers plying their trade was for me and my friends a rare and special occasion.

I was among the guests of Francis Sullivan and the atmosphere was truly electric as we witnessed 11 bouts that thrilled the assembled audience who vocally encouraged their favoured boxer.

I was even asked to present some trophies to the winners and the vanquished.

The Mayor, Karen Hamilton, was on the next table and the lady was enjoying the evening as much as our party, unsurprisingly so because we were well catered for by the excellent staff under the watchful eye of Danny Weymouth.

The funds raised by Frans’ party were in aid of the Countess of Brecknock Hospice so all in all the evening was a great success and a complete knockout thoroughly enjoyed by all.
