THE December demonstration at Broughton Floral Club’s last meeting of the year was well attended and after an innovative demonstration by Pauline Hurran, the newly elected area chairman, members all went home with ideas for the beckoning festive season.

Firstly, Pauline filled a horizontal base with sprigs of conifer, ivy, lime green viburnum heads and ilex peniculata. Finishing with four red candles, red stars and baubles, this was an advent display to be carried forward to Christmas.

The second display was silver and white; a hanging basket was covered with silvered fir cones and were most effective and unusual. White carnations and white avalanche roses were cut short and placed into the oasis resembling a dome shape. The spray rose ‘Snow Flake’ with silvered hydrangea heads and eryngium completed the design. Pauline then added a collar of white organza filled with little flashing lights which was most effective.

A contemporary design came next; jumbo foam was covered with bunched red cellophane tall points reaching skywards. Red birch twigs and many, many tall red Naomi roses were added, with one shorter around the outside to complete a simple design to which the audience could all aspire.

The next display was big and showy. A horizontal dish with silvered twigs placed directionally with a second row of purple twigs and tin tin placed in front with a third tier of purple lisianthus. A lower tier of silvered eryngium was added with purple and silver baubles.

Pauline covered a wreath ring with blue spruce, variegated pittosporum, Ming fern, leucadendron blush and ornamental peppers. She finished the display with a burst of gold apples and tiny boxes, Pauline then brought out two other rings and placed them on a tall stand making a very eye catching display.

The club’s next meeting will be the annual meeting and a talk by Carole Norman on 1 February. Visitors are welcome.
