WILL Andover learn from the past and plan for the future?

This photo is of a carnival float entered back in the day, 1975.

The theme was a protest over the council agreeing to the plans of our sports centre with a small swimming pool.

The town needed an Olympic size pool then, which would have encouraged the youth to seek and achieve, so maybe we would have had swimming stars in the town now. Other towns would come to Andover because it was the best.

On the float was also ‘Oh, Mr (Councillor) Porter, what shall we do, we want to go swimming but only room for two’.

The point is if we had got the facilities then, we would not be having this issue now. We need this time to do it right, consult and plan.

We all see the town growing, so don’t go back in time but look for the future.
