I WAS extremely surprised to read that St Mary’s Surgery had received a less than glowing report from the Care Quality Commission.

I am now in my 70s and have been a patient at St Mary’s for 16 years.

During this period I have had nothing but the utmost courtesy, consideration and professional care from all staff, from administrative and reception personnel to nurses and GPs.

To a layman like me, reading between the lines of the report, it strikes me that the minor criticisms from the CQC are all about the ubiquitous targets set by central government and form filling that detract from the focus of any GP surgery, which is to care for its patients from day to day.
