I WAS interested in Derek Weeks’ mention of TOC.H in his letter, as I was a member for several years in the 70s and 80s.
It was indeed a Christian organisation doing charitable and volunteer work in the community. Chopping kindling wood for OAPs, gardening, taking Mr Morris and his projector, showing films at Cherry Orchard and Copper Beaches and trying to help others where we could.
It was thorough TOC.H that Mrs Hall suggested I may like to help with Mencap’s Gateway Club which I enjoyed doing for several years.
Although only a small number who met weekly firstly at New Street Mission Hall, when Skip Harris was a member, as Derek mentioned, and then St Ann’s Hall.
Unable to recruit new members, the branch eventually closed.
